On mine the tranmission cooler lines (in Aus not US) go to the radiator and a small oil cooler in front of the radiator. The radiator ones are attached by quick release joint and the top by a flared joint (just screws off) then go by trannie hose to a fixed joint to metal pipe on to the auto transmission. What can you see at the join - can you take a picture?

Hey forgot to mention I just upgraded my radiator to an adrad (full metal) one. If you need a stock XJ radiator or they want too much to fix yours you can have my old one for the price of postage.

got it!, a mate who works for an air conditioning company came around and got it unclipped for me. We got it undone using the first suggestion by gildo because the clips had appear to be broken off.

Also thanks for the offer DazzaXJ96. I'll be taking my radiator to the shop tomorrow to get tested and if they want to much to get it fixed i'll take you up on that offer. Thanks all, i'll be replacing this connection with a different method.

A word of warning. If your end tanks are leaking replace them, don't just get them to solder the leak as it will again leak somewhere else, and you will become an expert at removing and installing radiators within a few months.

Do you have plastic tanks or copper ? If they are copper get the radiator repairer to remove them and clean out the tubes he should not have any trouble repairing the crack don't know what the go is with the plastic ones if they can repair them or not

Does the radiator in a petrol XJ have the tanks held on by lots of little metal tabs like the TD Xjs do?? Im not sure - but if so, ask the guy that you go to for the fix to guarentee that the radiator wont fail after he's bent those metal tabs out and in again. I learned the hard way after the radiator bloke i went to cleaned out my radiator but then said he wouldnt guarentee his work because he suspected the metal tabs had been weakened from being bent up (for tank removal) and back again (tank replacement). The "second opinion" bloke i went to said he wouldnt have repaired my radiator for that exact reason - he couldnt guarentee that the radiator would hold pressure.
A better repairer will explain all this to you - a dodgy one wont know (or care). So go in fore-armed with my tale of woe

Anyone want to buy a second hand TD radiator that may or may not work ?????

I was told by my radiator bloke that the plastic tank radiators a buggers to repair - on his advise I replaced mine with a brass tank unit. The plastic tanks use a rubber gasket to seal and it is often these that fail. Apparently these seals can't be bought by themselves and a dogey job using high temp silicon will have no guarentee and could fail unexpectedly. Having had run ins with that bugger Murphy in the past I opted for the more expensive option and got a new unit. And I was very happy with the work and service I got from the guy I went to.
