autos are good offroad the ONLY downside i have found is that they tend too run a little down hill but you just got too ride the brakes a bit more then normal, apart from that they are really good, they choose your gear for you there is no momentum lost during gear changes in mud and sand, good package all round.

and you can fix the "running down the hill" problem by re-gearing

i want a manual so that mr girlfriend doesn't drive my new pride and joy. i also wasn't sure on the auto offroad, and im not sure waht the 4.0l would be like on fuel because im on a small wage.

i have not driven an auto 4.0 off road but there are pleanty who have

i believe both have their good and bad points

the auto is great on uphills the manual is great on downhills

the torque in the deiesel is awsome but the 4.0 has plenty of power too

i am sure there are more people to shed some more light
