The original style cables didnt have a low fiction coating on the cables, this meant they were hárd to adjust and use (my opinion as an owner), the installation didn't come with a capped price like air lockers do/did.
Once installed, the ONLY maintenance for the lockers has been to replace the rear cable with a new one from Wooders (which works REALLY well).
Would i get them again? (mmmm no problems but more expensive to install, I'd probably just get air lockers next time - EVERY diff shop has seen em and they are made in Oz, so no massive delay on getting parts)

Unless you've had detroits before then I'd say you really need to take a car that has one (preferably both rear & front) for a spin. (In the wet is the real eye opener)

IMHO LSD's and Detroits are the arch nemisis of good road manners and safety (puts on flame proof kevlar coated undies).

I've yet to meet ANYONE who can honestly say they have a detriot locked car that was anything but a biach in the wet, down right dangerous if you asked me.

The same thing applies to overly tight LSD's - hell even I noticed that once the flogged out LSD i had in mine got replaced with the OX, the car was a sheitload better to drive - ESPECIALLY in the wet.

I know more than one person that would never get a mechanical or lsd locker again.

In thier defence however - detriots are hard to kill. If I was building an offroad only car then sure I'd have em, the only time they suck to death is driving down something that's real slippery - if you cant disengage the locker then you dont have much in the way of control (I can tell when the lockers are in going down a muddy hill, the car goes everywhere)

As a dual detroiter, I must attack Laz with my napalm flame thrower and...... no not really. Detroits have there clunks and noises in the dry. In the wet the main problem is taking off while turning - there is not much grip to force the detroit to disengage and when it is it doesn't take too much throttle while cornering to cause it to lock up very quickly...result locked rear in wet, spinning wheels, easy to throw the back out. After, 5 years I'm used to it Half the clowns on the road are dangerous with open diff cars anyway

So what your saying is, is that if my brain is connected to my right foot, I shouldn't have a problem
