yeh, what was said re the hyodung's is true (I sold them for a while too), have a daytona 675 trumpy myself and access to brand new KTM's whenever I need a dirt fix.

Might be out on a new 530 this coming weekend. Depending on your age you may be able to get the 650 under the LAMS scheme but not sure how that works in qld.

another rider here... currently running a CBR600RR, GSXR600RR & Z750.... raced the R1's and just sold my WR motard... looking for another (never should have parted with it

personally i recommend you get on a Motard as you will have more FUN and will be less bored than being stuck on a learner 250. Also come the time to upgrade you will sell quicker (if you want to sell it!) and lose less dollars...

You can also have a set of dirt rims to play on weekend trips, trailer it out with the Jeep and play in the dirt.. I suggest a Yamaha WR400/450 or the likes.. you'll be more comfortable on the larger size bike than the little babyblade... and the torque, power and gearing will keep you entertained..

not to mention the satisfaction of sliding past some supersport bikes in the hills mattyducati will back me up on this

I am in Qld and I ride a Suzuki Bandit 400 (the grey import) as a commuter daily.

Its a little bigger than a 250, so a little more power when I need it and it was few grand cheaper than a CBR250 at the time.

This was my first road bike after riding 2 stroke dirt bikes and quads for years. In Qld you can still do the Q-Ride training and as long as you have held your open drivers licence for over a year you can move straight to a open bike with Q-Ride. Not sure what the legalities were with P licences or if you had held your opens less than a year but do a check on Q-Ride at the Dept of Transport site if you are looking at licencing.

For a cheap bike to run and fun to ride, I would agree that a motard would be awesome. For something a little more forgiving and stable at higher speeds on the road go for something like a VTR 250 or a Bandit (hey I ride one) or like BennyWA said kwaka gpx250 zzr250 or suzuki across250 - or the RGV for 2 stroke fun. A mate of mine used to ride an Aprillia RS 250(I think) and that thing was awesome as well.

Good luck finding the right ride and save some dollars for leathers or at least a jacket and some Kevlar jeans

cheers

I am currently on my L's and own a hyosung gt250r. Has been a great bike as a learner bike. I was looking at getting a cbr250rr, but the hyo I bought was only 1 yo, still has factory warranty, looked better and was cheaper than a 15yo, imported cbr250rr. Plus after 6 months to 1 year when you are off your l's you will want a bigger bike anyway.

Given the appaling choice of 250s that are affordable i'm just waiting. Swipe rides where I can at the moment. In a few months going to buy an old 600cc and take my time riding under my open class L's.
