ill start the ball rolling, THE DIESEL XJ MOTORS SUCK IN A BIG WAY....BIG BIG WAY

The XJ Diesel has most of its faults documented in these pages several times over, what about the diesel from a KJ, the new 3.0l would be great but would cost as much as an XJ diesel, but a 5speed auto KJ diesel would be pretty good, most of the KJ diesel owners seem to be happy with them.

You could swapin a diesel & Manual trans, or just leave your XJ off the road for 4- 6months, throw away +$10K and than have an expensive to maintain unreliable motor and a car that you will have to pay to have removed fromyour mechanics shopin a few years.
OR
Keep the rig that you know, spend a little more on fuel for now and buy a later model diesel Jeep in a few years.
You will still have a car thats reliable and relatively cheap to service with some resale value. Start with a later model decent diesel engined Jeep and stay the hell away from the shitbox VM "powered" XJs.
