I was in Mackay in July, several times actually, as my son lives and works in Moranbah. It looks to be booming. I haven't been to Tassie (yet).

Mackay is fantastic..................... in winter, come back and visit December- January and see what you think. yea it is booming, that's the problem, the mines are killing it for the average person.
If you aint making at least 50K here it's to expensive.

One of my work mates recently retired to Tassie and lasted one winter and sold up and moved back up here, never got out on his boat and his wife never got out of the house the whole time they were there.

There's a little old lady from Tassie that tows her caravan up to Rocky each winter for exactly that reason. I ran into her at the Gracemere Caravan Park, she's done this for twelve years straight - all by her self as well.

Not over 50 so don't shoot me :)

I visited Yamba, in northern NSW for the first time a few months ago and it looked pretty bloddy good (like Hervey Bay about 30 years ago).

Nice golf course, a great pub, nice beaches, right on the river, and close to the Bruce for when you want to hit the road.
