Default What is a geocaching trip

A normal MJOC trip, but, stopping to find some Geocaches that have been pre-hidden along the way. (A geocache is usually a small box, with a log book and some simple toys for swapping). It's a high tech global version of hide and seek the box. My kids love it, even the 2 year old gets into it and has the biggest smile when we find a cache.

You don't have to have a GPS to join in, as we will take the convoy to the right area, and from there, it is a manual search for the cache as the GPS will only get you within about 10meters typically.

cheers

From there, you can get a "fly by" view of the tracks. (or if you have Map Source, you can get the original file, and import into your own copy of MapSource).

As i couldn't get the files uploaded here, I've stored them on a file sharing site, and the links for the MapSource file and standard GPX file are at
geocaching tracks.gpx
geocaching tracks.gdb

PS If anyone does actually down load the tracks and waypoints for the Geocahces, could you let me know if it worked and weather the idea is worth while. Thanks.
I must be getting old because I've got no Idea. I've just about figgered out how to use the basic features of oziexplorer after about 3 years

I've just downloaded the demo version, and the following should work on your version, (given that you have a map of the Bunyip state forest area)

File,
Load From File,
Import GPX file (WPs and Tracks)

cheers

Justin

Hi Justin,
I get an error when Google Earth tries to open the GPX file. Something about a parsing error.

Hi Justin,
Imports into Oziexplorer OK. Gentle Annie will cut-off a large section of the northern route unless we double back on Bunyip Road.

Hi Neal,
The sequence of the tracks in the gpx file (if all goes to plan) is

Princess Hwy to Bunyip Rd
Bunyip to Seven Acre Rock
Seven Acre Rock to Spion Kobje
then (after a cache hunt at Spion Kobje) a small back track to
Phasmin Track
Phasmin Track to Lawson falls
Lawson Falls to Tea Tree track
Tea Tree Track to Labourtouche Nth Rd

Then its just back to the Princess highway

Given that you know the area well, what estimate do you put on the drive time for the trip as shown above? (I esimate each cache will add 25minutes, and lawson falls, probably 45mins including the walk down and back and leech check)
