The factory sway bars on WJ/WG's are just there for decoration, they don't actually serve any other purpose...

I agree, you wouldn't notice on the road assuming you stick to the speed limit and don't drive like a lunatic. In an emergency however, sudden swerving at 100km/hr, makes sense the swaybar is going to make hell of a difference.

rear does sweet f/all on the wg

However you dont get much more articulation by removing it either, the only reason mine is off is because i moved my shocks inwards away from the tyres so i had to remove the rear S/bar

a stiff rearend is actually an advantage offroad. Ever seen a Discovery climb a steep rutted hill and you will see what I mean.

Found this http://www.stealthtdi.com/SwayBars.html

More I read into it, more it makes sense. Unless you guys drive like rally drivers on the road, you won't notice the difference till you've been put on the spot (evasive manouvers, sharp turns, etc) on the road...

The thing is the WJ/G rear swaybar is 1/2" thick spring steel. You can disconnect one end & push/pull it up/down 6" without raising a sweat, how much anti-roll do you think thats gunna give a 2 ton car?
Many vehicles have been made w/out rear swaybars & I believe patrols only had front bars on upper spec models.
