Picking up a black JK on Friday hopefully.
Not had much experience with spotties so wondering to go with a combination pair with wide/distant spot or just bog standard spot?

We just went with HID bulbs in our headlights, and they function very well.
So well, in fact, that we get flashed very often.

Good for you.
Maybe you should adjust your headlights down then before you blind someone and cause an accident.
Or didnt you think of that?

That would be why HID headlights are only legal in vehicles that have them fitted as standard from the manufacturer and are ADR compliant.

I have the Lightforce 170s with the blue lense (mounted to the windscreen), amd they seem to work real well They throw a really good pattern of light, and also have the adjustable focus (similar to a mag lite)

The roo lites are meant to be ok, as a cheaper knock off to the light forces, however you do get what you pay for.

I was going to get a set of the roo lites, just because I dont need to use spotties all that often and they seem to be pretty good value for money, may still get a set to chuck on the bullbar when i finally get one

Totally depends on your driving environment.

Highway:

Long straight sections on a regular basis ... you need long range and some table drain illumination. 2 x spot & 2 x spread ... or at least one of each.

Short straight sections of terrain with lots of turns in between, generally only need a spread beam pattern as your visibility is restricted to the next corner in the road anyway.

Offroad ... Spread Beam .... you shouldnt be going fast enough to need long range lighting.

Im all in favour of good visibility but not at the expense of being flashed by oncoming drivers or burning out bulbs early ... so normally I just use a max 100w bulb light.

Constantly dipping the lights shortens the bulb life ... particularly with HID.

Higher wattage H3 / H4 bulbs over 55w have thinner filaments ... which can fracture sooner when on corrugated roads etc.

Look at your driving environment and choose a set of lights accordingly. For some people a set of $30 cheapies would be adequate ... others need better.
