I was the other way around i was after a manual but could get an auto at the right price and would have to wait for manual at time.
Ended up taking auto as deal was to good to refuse and could not be happier plus the wife does like the Auto in the larger vehicle.
All the best with your choice

Auto allows superior latte consumption during superior wheel placement and will be classed as a skill depleting factory option

Seriously the auto is good.

Jeeptheone,

Very good.
It would be hard for me to categorised as part of the cafe latte set... But I can see the advantages beer handling skills, light ales of course.

Regards

I would put money on an auto CRD JK having more control offroad than the manual CRD.

Mine has better compression braking down hill than my old GQ did. And a much slower crawl speed (torque converter helps). The level of control the auto gives is just epic - allows superior wheel placement to be made and coupled with the lockers my stock suspensioned shorty goes places it just shouldn't be seen.

I expect this to change with bigger tyres, but I still think it'll piss all over a manual in the rough stuff.

A manual with the off road pack which gives it 3.73 diff rations would be a much better match to the auto.

Even if the auto was worse offroad I picked it because the manuals are prone to clutch and gearbox issues.

The CRD Auto is usually found behind a V8, so it's strong, if it was going to break easily i would have done so already.

the CRD Auto is the goods.
