Having just bought a JK (unlimited diesel) to replace our trusty XJ here is what I found:
- If you are going novated lease roll any accessories you plan to add to the vehicle into the lease - for me it worked out cheaper to do this. Get the dealer to sort this for you. The other advantage of a novated lease is you should get a nice fleet discount.
- I miss being able to open the bonnet and know what each bit does and what is likely to cause problems. Hopefully this will change with time.
_ I really miss the great sound the XJ made and the power to weight it had (JK feels a bit sluggish in comparison).
- If you are used to wheeling your XJ you will want to add a lift and replace the park bench on the front with a bar that does not stuff up your approach angle. If you are like me and used to muddies on your XJ you will also want to swap out the standard tyres (I went to a 35" so that means new wheels as well).
Only issue I have with the JK so far is excessive wind noise which hopefully the dealer will fix.
As Jeep has decided that all the people who loved their XJ's would not want to buy a replacement version the Wrangler Unlimited is the next best thing. Compared to the XJ they are vastly better onroad, more space inside (not hard) and the fuel economy is definitely better. Offroad I am not so sure.
