several months ago, i had the rear drums machined, and intalled new slave cylinders and brakes. as the drums were machined just beyond max size, i took the old brake shoes and (tried) to have thicker pads put on them to compensate for the larger diam. they said 'no problem' and bonded on new pads which were no thicker than the standard ones i had in a box!
these things squealed badly from day one, which i put down to finer friction material. i removed the o/s drum at one point to inspect and all looked fine. after the warning light came on over the weekend, i took the n/s drum off and found that, on that side at least, the pivot end of one of the shoes had become badly bend sideways and up, so it was contacting the drum!
ie...
i have absolutely no idea how this brake shoe became so bent.
when i removed the o/s drum, i found that one of the bonded pads had cracked in a number of places and was chipping off. so thus far, my experience with bonded pads has not been good.
i also realised i had failed to notice that the bonded shoes had been done as two pairs of a shoe with a long pad on it, and one with a short pad on it. i had put them on the car with the two shoes with long pads on one side, and the two with short pads on the other, which wont have helped anything. the shoes i have previously bought from mascot motors were 4 identical shoes.
