It's not a big end. Big end gets more pronounced under load. This is a knock that starts off lightly and intermittent when the car is warming up. It then gets louder and constant when at operating temp. It is a bit hard to hear it like it exactly is in the video. You can hear it though as I got closer to the sump. It's not good whatever it is. It definitely is internal. My jeep gets serviced regularly so it's definitely not lack if maintenance that has caused it. I don't drive it hard or thrash it either.

ooooohhhhhlllll that aint a good sound Rastus. Makes my blown HG seem like nothing compared to that noise. I wouldn't have thought a bearing could make a knock as loud as that and I have heard engines with shot big ends.

Regards A

She's pretty crook AG? I'll worry about it when it blows up...lol. It still drives fine in the meantime. I'll drop the box out of it when I can and have a better look at the flexplate and convertor. When the box is out I will start the engine and run it. If the noise is still there then it's definitely another engine. If it makes no noise then I know it's the box.

Is it possible to crank the engine without the trans in? Just thinking what holds the SM in place once the bell housing is off?

I'll unbolt the converter housing from the box and bolt it back onto the motor with a few bolts then bolt the starter onto it again.

Not much to a winch. It looks clean enough.
