My original cap caused much the same issue, ended up replacing it with the one from the parts car and sorted all my overheating problems once and for all.

I have some trouble working out how that would work. As far as I can imagine, a non fitting raditor cap will loose pressure and if anything will loose coolant around the cap...? Endng up in the overflow tank would be the (expanding) coolant that could go nowhere else....but you state his cap fixed it, so I must be missing something here.

The pressure in the cooling system keeps the boiling point up. If the pressure drops due to a failing radiator cap the boiling point drops and the coolant turns to steam, which doesn't remove the heat from the engine as effectively.

Need to work on the cooling system as it doesnt seem to be working right as it spits it out the overflow/filler tank and leaves it dry or close to, thermostat and water pump time?
Crank position sensor on way out?

Wooders cap looked to have a longer spring on the shaft that seated the rubber washer into the filler neck better. The top seal on mine was fine so it was loosing pressure into the overflow hose.
I recall people having problems previously with some generic caps.
