I was thinking about using an engine de-greaser and a garden hose. I was planning on keeping any streams of water away from the electronics. I just wasn't sure if anyone had issues from using a de-greaser or anything else...

Lord knows I've had enough issues, I don't need to create one, but trying to clean the engine. It just smells like I've dipped the front of my XJ in diesel and it's not going away. However, I'm not seeing wet spots on the pavement anymore when I park, and the fuel connections don't look wet anymore. So I'm pretty sure it's time for a good cleaning.

Forgot I had this on my wishlist on Amazon for almost a year now.
For whoever is looking for a steering box kit

Did them a couple of years back and haven't leaked since. The only leak I've got left is a slight weep from the HG. It's not leaking into the chamber and the engine oil is not milky, so unless it gets worse, it can keep weeping.

VM is no different, just some of us dont wish to risk having elec problems.
Rather be driving than fixing.

I have used cheap pressure pack can degreaser. it appears to be mainly kerosene. It does work. There are others that you use in a trigger pump bottle. The ones I am aware of are fine. Have also seen people at car washes with the bonnet up & foamed all up & then rinse. Dont know if the car wash owner likes it though.

Just flushed the power steering system and now running Penrite PAS fluid. Was WELL overdue! The PO had used ATF which is more than likely the reason for the leaky box and I can honestly say I've never seen oil that bad and with so much crap in it! Feels and sounds much better now. Transmission and transfer next.
