Your an expert now on diagnosing and fixing your Jeep. Hopefully the O2 sensor plug will fix it. You should have a reliable vehicle once all the bugs are ironed out.
My XJ was playing up this week and all it was was the battery isolator switch I had installed.
Cheers,

Thanks Alex I think you have to be a expert ...
It wasn't unplugged Bugger Some how it came loose and must have been caught and pulled the wires out of the plug!
Lucky its on the sensor side so all I have to do is replace the sensor and make sure the wire is safe

Lulu,
Out of interest if you disconnect the perge valve electrical plug, and take it for a short spin does it run better- like it is now, or crappy like it was?

unsure rainman I will test for you when I get the new O2 sensor but from what I understand there would be no difference as the valve would be closed as it should be it only opens when the car is cruising burning off the vapour I think mine was opening at the wrong time and stuffing the mixture after the sensors had set the mixture
making it run crappy

yes that was my understanding, was thinking a "disconnect it an see if it runs better" test. might be the go for others with a purge solenoid and similar symptoms.
I'm a big fan of "costs nothing but time" diagnostic tests.
For what its worth the '95 use a vac system to activate the purge valve, not a solenoid.

Yay! the Green Like Buttons are Back!.......
I looked at the setup on the 99 the other day ... and its different? Heres the thing rainman you being a 95 your vac operated valve purges the fuel vapours mine the 96 (Crazy Year) it is powered and works with manifold gasses Then I looked at the 99 its the same sorta set up as the 95 I assume but electrical useing the canister for fuel gasses
So? if a 95 vac valve played up and a 99 electrical valve played up the symptoms would be different to a 96?

mate i wouldnnt like to even guess. not realy familiar with anything but the 95.
the FSM for the year model has a section dedicated to this system, dosnt help with the 96, but it will be coverd in the 99 maybe have a read?
I would expect the 99 to be more similar/ same to the 96 than the 95.
Manifold gasses?
the 95 uses manifold vacuum to purge fuel vapor trapped in the canister via the engine intake.- Ie above the butterfly valve not below.
