Finally did the last touch, numberplate bracket and light. When I made the bar I welded a bolt and stud to the end of the carrier section to mount a bracket to for the numberplate. Well I made the bracket, it slips on to the bolt, tightens with a wingnut and uses the stud to align it and stop it twisting left or right. The wiring unplugs and the wingnut is undone and then the bracket, plate and light are removed as one piece to get the spare off. Not much but now I dont worry about getting a ticket at night

Cheers
Steve

Hey steve you have inspired me. I don't know if I want to go to the lengths that you have so I am looking at a slightly different approach. I thought I could replace the rear bumper mounts with something that will carry the weight of the tyre (and maybe a jerry can). I am after some of your advice.

If i fab up some mounts that are a similar shape as the OE mounts out of 5mm steel and use the original mounts on the chassis. then bolt something like this onto that through the bumper like on the detourusa one picture below. Or mabye go two like the kaymar. Mounting to the chassis will limit this though.

Probably need to ask;

Is the OE bumper straight? Looks like it is.

The OEM bumper has a curve in it. The stock bumper mounts strength is limited by the mounting place on the body, it is thin metal and can crak with the extra weight of a tyre etc on it. You need to tie it into the towbar mounting holes to get any decent strength.

Hope that helps.

Cheers
Steve

What did you use to paint the bumper?

I am considering following your method (adding whole new bar) but using current bumper corners to go around the side...
