Resistive senders are rarely linear however, so adding resistors may make it correct at one point but incorrect at others.

this is correct, the exact resistive measurements at various temps are listed in the FSM specs, range ~3000Ohms @40C to 55 @ 100C...so a small amount of resistance MAY make the stock gauge fairly accurate around the critical 100C range...some inaccuracy below this does not really matter imo

taint like that, one wire and earthed, hence maybe a diode to separate circuits, but maybe not needed, may not be possible.. havent checked the circuit diagram yet

did the same 200km trip @ 110kmph, ambient 15C (instead of 3C)

temp reached 105, doensnt sound fantastic for what happens when ambient reaches 40C

Today I fitted my lift "boost", some extra isolators up front netted ~20mm and the full length AAL netted ~25mm, one step closer to Cape York.
Whilst tightening the panhard rod retaining bolt bolt in the diff felt odd, not really getting tighter with each turn, then BANG, snapped the bolt, took a bit to remove the nut from inside the bracket, luckily I had a spare....

After reading that, I think I may buy a new one.

Just had a hell of a time putting the tow bar back on, for rego inspection. Removed the bolts from the shackle relocators and they promptly buggered off. Eventually lined up the relocators, tow bar, tank skid and exhaust mount, got all the bolts in, and was tightening them up, when the last bastard, loosened off again.

Wasn't the bolt either.

Took the bumper off, ripped the bolts out of the LHS and flicked the nutstrip to buggery. Got the spare nutstrip from the blue jeep and went through the rigmarole again. AHHH...

On that subject, had inspection today.
Failed on.....

Oil leak - engine
Oil leak - steering gear box
Near side & off side rear shock absorbers - upper and lower bushes.
Exhaust - tailpipe hits shackle

I'm happy with that. The bloke was pretty cool to talk to, too. And he likes my quick disconnects.😁

Cheers

first, as expected, takes an absolute minimum of 20mins to warmup to ~90C under normal suburban driving

(ambient 3-17C)

once hot, gets close to 100 if idle for more than a minute or so

at 110kmph on freeway 1hr each way, ambient 3C, temp sat low 80s

as most of my driving is short trips, hopefully installing the 91C thermo will improve economy, but I will be lucky

in theory, it should not be too hard for me to wire a variable resistor to calibrate, and run both stock and aftermarket temp gauges from the aftermarket sender at the same time

the digi temp gauge/sender is stated as also suitable for trans oil temp, so I may use it for that later
Why don't you just T the fitting and run two senders?
