I've been using the Mio 168 for a couple of years now and it has suited me fine. It has the Travroute software and I loaded Oze CE and a stack of maps.

You can get 1gig & 2 gig and bigger SD cards now so I loaded the software onto one of these and there are no memory issues.
I must have written a million words on the system in here somewhere, so a search for Mio 168 might bring something up. Basically I like to be able to carry it in my top pocket when I'm not driving. I have used it all across Aus and in NZ too - just load up the maps for the area you want.
The Mio's archillies heel can be the inbuilt battery running flat, though I havent had too many prob's.

However, Ive just picked up one of these, which have replaceable batteries (I bought a spare battery too).

They have a faster engine than the Mio, I havent loaded Ozi on yet but will get around to it soon. The old mio has been dropped on concrete a few times now and a small portion of the screen sometimes blacks out.

A question for the guys with GPS in their phones - do you get charged by the phone company for "air time" when using the GPS, or is there a chance you will in the future?

Any way good luck with it all

Not released just yet. Its under network testing with Voda, 3 & Optus. Release date is still Q1, I reckon it will be out in about a month.

Had a play with one a few weeks ago during technical training. Its farkin thin, and feels sturdy.

No Oziexplorer sucks arse, hoping someone will release a Series 60 GPS app for offroading soon.

Goodol55 - No charge for GPS at the moment. Nokia's GPS application will download local maps as you drive, but it can be cached. If you go for Tomtom or Destinator software you just buy the maps upfront.

I had the old navman for a few years, but finally died a couple of weeks ago, so picked up a HP Ipaq 5765. Has built in GPS, comes with tom tom (even has the M7 on it) and now have oziexplorer loaded on it. Works great. I like the gps integrated into the unit as you don't have to worry about charging a second item.

Does something like this sound like a sensible idea?

I'd like a GPS with touchscreen, that's suitable for on and offroad use and it looks like maybe a PDA will be a cheaper, more versatile way to do it. I like the tom tom units but no good offroad and then the garmins don't have the touchscreen or extra bluetooth functions etc (and they're both very pricey!)
May even be able to work it in as a tax deduction...
