[QUOTE=mountainman]Does the radiator in a petrol XJ have the tanks held on by lots of little metal tabs like the TD Xjs do??

Mountainman yes they do they are the plastic tanks and I had been lead to believe that they were not repairable Greg188 Suggest that you go the aftermarket one they are around the $450 mark at least if you intend to keep the rig you will be able to get it cleaned at a later date if needed the reason the plastic ones are fitted new is manufacturing cost not because they are better

yeah it has the plastic tanks with the metal clips, i'm thinking it may be worth while to get a new one, The radiator mob i go to actually build custom ones too, so maybe they'd be able to whip me up a better one, perhaps even an aluminium one. I guess it'll depend on how many $$$ for it to be worthwhile.

Yup - thought so. The O rings in the original radiators can be replaced. the bloke who did mine ended up only charging the cost of them for the whole job ($40 each !!!!) - still feel ripped off.

Id be going a new one - the reason i didnt was that all the trouble i was having with mine occured between Chrissy and New Year and a couple of days before a month long driving holiday of Tassie. So had little option other than a new jeep one......and only just managed to get that one in time !! A new full metal one will remove any doubt that the bugger works properly. By the way a new jeep original cost me $700. Sounds like a 'no-brainer' to me

Default Upgrading your radiator

If you need to replace your radiator then consider upgrading at the same time as it doesnt cost that much more for a much better product. I recently upgraded to a full metal radiator (no plastic tanks or o-rings). This brand (as promoted on http://go.jeep-xj.info/) had 37 tubes as opposed to my original which had 24 - see picture attached. I was also told that the tubes are wider which carry a larger volume of water and they have dimples inside the tubes that "turbulate" the water rather than just flowing through it. Total cost $530 as opposed to $430 for an original.
