I am an oil burner.
But i bought mine with a small leak in the head gasket so i'll be joining the gang that had trouble with the engine.

Hi,

Had two XJ diesels, 1st one still okay had to go with divorce at 140K.
Current one at 76K still okay.

Only issues with engine have been glow plugs.

BTW ran 500 litres of biodiesel through mine with no problems.

Absolutely critical you never overheat them.

Aah Gildo, I figured you'd spot this thread sooner or later! lol I'm with you - I've hung out on this forum for long enough to know there's a lotta people with diesels that have had problems.....they must just be shy

dont want to tempt fate only probs so far have been glow plugs intercooler hose flattening (replaced with steel exhaust pipe)and egr valve shaking loose done around 150.000ks just changed all the hoses because the were origionals1997 date stamp on them am currently touching every tree in kuitpo forest for luck (south ozzies should know how many trees that is)

Traded mine at 150k 6 years ago for last of the XJ's(our third) but could only get petrol. Only trouble was egr valve(until blocked off) and one set of manifold gaskets at about 120k. Very economical if driven slow. Bloody thirsty if pushed very hard. I'd buy another if they were still available.

You might find that those with troublesom oil burners have got rid of them and no longer on the forum perhaps you could set up a Poll that way the shy ones dont have to post just select yes or no
