The 4.7l V8 in the WJ/G's use a simple cable operated throttle ,not fly-by-wire.
If you used the WJ trans itd be pretty simple conversion.
Just use the WJ V8 PCM ,I believe the harness will plug straight in but you might have to look at pin outs & swap a few around.
If you really want a manual I believe they were avail in US.
Same motor used in Dodge dakota.
Btw, HO motor has 190kw ,also figures on paper dont do motor justice ,it seems to have a lot more power than advertised figure would suggest. But then power figures have always been contentious, some companys will fudge figures up ,others down. Some take specs with all ancillaries full exh etc while others use dyno room specials.

just found old J.P mag.(aug. 03) frank currie (currie enterprises) wrangler strangler! 4.7ltr and 5 speed auto from 02 grand! he stats the wiring was major pain as was fitting the engine, had to make new engine mounts! if he was going to rebuild he would just use a ls1-ls2 for ease!
but thats to say it can be done!
I was just looking at my engine bays and would love to see that "V" in the T.J
as I cant register the grand! (body damage)

Seems that the WJ/G’s motor is the way to go (much simpler throttle body and fuel injection). But as for using the WJ’s 5 speed auto no thanks as its longer than a AX-15 so the engine would need to be positioned closer to the radiator to fit it in or you would have to use custom drive shaft lengths that’s probably why the guy in the J.P mag had such a hard time with the engine mounts (just a logical conclusion) but also the gearbox mounts are different.

if your going to the hassle of converting to an 8 just use an ls1 or ls2 as adanced adapters sell a kit for the conversion so you can use a ax15 or nv3550
be a lot simpler and more cost effective and probably more reliable .

The main hassle I could forsee with wiring would be the immobiliser,WJ/G's use sentry key system.Probably easiest to simply get this module aswell.
Could probably get manual trans ,clutch & flywheel from dodge dakota shipped over for reasonable figure?
Nothing wrong with 4.7 V8 for reliability, true theres a lot more local hot up gear & knowledge for Ls motors.

could you ditch the entire computer system from both your tj and the transplant 4.7 v8 and use a EMS or wolf computer? many years ago i put a fuel injected 5 litre into a VL commodore that previously had a naturaly aspirated 5 litre, i used a EMS computer and had very little problems.

I actually thought about that the problem is that the airbag system is set up differently to a TJ so the airbags would either not work or go off prematurely. But he wiring looms of a TJ are very similar to WJ/Gs the TJs being slightly simpler but the WJ computer is programmed to run the engine along with the 5 speed auto so the engine may prematurely cut out or lose power every now and then as the computer is telling the engine to lay off so the gearbox can up or down shift.
