When do you know if your wheel bearings need changing?

best way to check has already been mentioned - jack the front wheel off the ground and grab the tire at the 12 and 6 oclock position and push n pull....ANY play you feel means its time for hubs/bearings...there should be NO play

Thanks for all the advice guys. Tried this yesterday and there was no movement in the wheel so guess its probably not the wheel bearings. Its starting to get a bit louder now and its only in the rear RHS so will take the wheel off tonight and check it.

Rear wheel bearings tend to get noisy before you can feel anything I'd change it they're cheep enough

Well just went to take the wheel off to check if there was anything wrong with it and have found out what the problem was. I had the tyres rotated at my last service about 2 months ago. I looked at the wheel today to find 3 missing lug nuts. Yep that is correct the wheel was being held on by 2 nuts only. So i wonder how long it would have been before the wheel was racing me down the street?

Dont trust the Bu@@ers I have had wheels come loose on a couple of ocasions when put on by the experts (& a couple by me . . .must be a slow learner) Had one come off about 150M South of Tenant Creek in the middle of the night it took about 3 hours to find the bloody thing.Now I put them on Tighten them go for short drive Tighten again then once more after 100 or so KM

haha i knw the feeling of them coming of to luckily it was the rear tyre for me, but im obsessed with tightening them all the time to.
