I have a Donaldson TopSpin on my snorkle. After regular inspections, I found that I only need to replace the air filter every year or two now. Then again, I haven't been driving much lately, but it does wonders in dusty conditions when you are behind others.

I have one. I took it off after a bit of research.
I instal it when I’m doing a trip over dusty roads.

I did have a ram head, but it seems to have either fallen off on the motorway, (I think I would have noticed that), or was stolen at Westfield. So now the TopSpin is the only one I have.
What lead you to taking it off unless you need it? I noticed no difference in mileage or power when testing between ram & TopSpin.

Had time to install AEV Gen 2 Snorkel using stock intake box - paper filter - which I completely sealed/enclosed (silicone on all drains and any potential gaps between snorkel insert for deep water). Was running the power ram crown.
Test was on a drive down coast from City to surf at Thirroul (NSW SC - Go Dragons).
There was a noticeable improvement in pull on hills at HW Speed, a good comparison because it was the second time this week I'd done the trip and as usual had a hard time without earlier in the week.
It held 5th easily, didn't muck around with sixth on hills only on flat.
Only theory is that at HW speed the snorkel allows the engine to be fed much more air than usual with the power ram pointing forward designed to catch and push the air through, instead of the stock configuration which sips at the air while pointed to the side of the vehicle and trapped under the bonnet.
Now this comes with a word of warning, there's always a new parts halo effect, so might all be placebo, but I trust myself for now.

I never found much difference between heads, but I can verify that without the snorkle, I typically had a delta of 15-30C between ambient temp & intake temp. (Temps from gauges plugged into OBD2 port.)
After installing the snorkle, unless I'm idling in traffic, the delta is now ~5C, summer or winter.
So lower intake temp, theoretically better engine efficiency.
