I have cut the cover off of the OME steering damper and have had no problems.

Wooders, Just cut off the covers run them upside down and if they start to get damp around the seal turn them back the right way up and do the mount mod??

How about Rancho 5000s insted as most people by the 9000s for the pose value and never actualy adjust them at $116 each for a 5000at any lenght not bad value

DuDoop,
I ran Rancho 5000's prior to my current (just removed) OME's....Not a bad shockie at all - but The OME lengths better suited me......Ok I just got frustrated trying to get the right part form our local Rancho supplier so I went to the dark side......

BTW Gave the grinder a quick test run tonight on one of the removed stuffed shockies - no dramas what-so-ever....no damage to the shaft in the grinding process etc....
BTW just measuring it the cover is 64mm, whereas the body is 55mm....nearly 5mm extra on either side......I think it will make it much easier to mount and will give heaps of clearance from my spring perches.....so I'm gonna do it
