never lost my license, nor ever had a speeding fine in my name (Touch wood).... plenty in a rapid responder and ambulance though....And doing that for a living I was quickly swayed from driving like an idiot...

One of the sales guys lost his license up here in Qld and he was able to get a special license to be only allowed to drive between certain hours so he could keep working. You have to go to court to get it.

The funny part was that one day he left work to go home, leaving himself just enough time before his curfew expired. Turns out he was stopped by a RBT and by the time he was clear of them his time had expired and he couldn't drive off. RBT guys had a good laugh.

Quitting your job seams a bit extreem. I don't know the specifics of your job but surely you can grab a lift from workmates, family, partner or mate. Failing that I rode my push bike to and from work for two years to keep a bit fitter and that was a 60km round trip up and down hills not to mention dealing with Sydney traffic. Failing that there must be some form of public transport you can link up with.

There are a dozen work arounds out there and the effort should make up for the gap between the dole and your current salary. Not to mention maintaining your sanity. It's great to have three months off work when its paid leave and you have some dosh in your pocket. But I would be bored senseless with no cash and nothing to do.

Get yourself one of those 2 stroke motors for the treadly. My nephew lost his licence and did that. In WA the cops reckon that they are not exactly illegal yet (bit of a grey area). There are quite a few getting around my way.

Havent been suspended but should have been a few times when I was younger.
A couple of years ago after having surgery on my shoulder & 2 nights in hospital. Got home (ambo brought me home) & no one here. There was a note in the letter box saying there was a parcel at the post office. being Friday arvo I didnt want to wait till Monday to find out what it was so I decided to drive the 5 km to the PO.
Going up the drive at 20km/hr it felt like 200km/hr. The meds had not worn off. I went the back way to town & it was the longst it has ever taken me yet it felt like I was doing 200km/hr all the way. I should have been shot for doing that !!
