Well, so far so good - I haven't had a ciggie since i started this thread. Normal routine was to get home from work and have one with the missus while we discuss the 'state of the nation' - she had one, and although she tossed me the packet, I didn't! That's progress - now to keep it up!

Thanks for the support guys!

A mate of mine got around for a year with a packet of cigs in his pocket & didn't have one ,reckoned as long as he had them in his pocket he didn't have to stress about not having a smoke as long as the option was there ,worked for him .Took me a few tries before I gave up & then went cold turkey . 24 hours is a good start mate so now work on the next 24 .Good luck .

I've been off the smokes for 8 months now. I smoked a pack a day for 14 years and loved it. I loved the smell the taste everything about it. I tried to give up quite a few times but a couple of hours of not smoking would result in fists through walls and road rage. I just couldn't imagine life without them. I even spent 2 years next to my father dying of cancer and that did absolutely nothing to curb my smoking.
I woke up one morning with a stinking headache and dry sore throat from smoking all night and stuck a smoke in my mouth. I had done this a million times before but this time I decided I'd had enough. I remebered something I had read a couple of weeks before. Make a list of the pros and cons for quitting smoking. If you look at the list of cons it probably contains things like "it stops me becoming stressd" and "I really enjoy one after a meal". Now if you really think about it, non-smokers don't get stressed by not smoking, so it is actually smoking that causes stress. You don't enjoy one after a meal, you have to have one or you get upset, which means you are not in control of your behavoiur. So now your two reason for wanting to smoke become reasons to quit ie reduce stress and have more control of you behavoiur.
Basically all of the reasons on the cons list end up on the pros list ie there are only positives left, you're only getting rewards as opposed to giving something up. Once you have this concept in mind, quitting is easy.
I don't know if this advice played any part, but it did make sense to me.
Hope it helps.

Oppylock is on the money. I gave the bad boys away in January this year on Australia day. no reason, just woke that morning and for some reason that was the day. been working with a bloke who chains them down and he coughs so hard, blotches appeared on his forehead. That scared me, and I had an appiffany (sp).

Just didn;t want to smoke again. Had smoked for 17 years and just loved them and everything about them.

I had given them away previously but always found an excuse to go back. this time it was different and i could tell and worked out many of the reasons that oppylock gave. I needed no patches no gum, no alternative, just decided i didn;t want to die a painful cancerous death.

My coughing friend at work has since been diagnosed with cancer. riddled with it, and still packs aways a 50 pack a day....

my advice is to anyone who is giving them away, only do so if you TRULY believe and want to give them away.

good luck to you boys, you'll be better off without them.

and, it only takes 48 hours to kick the nicotine addiction. The rest is willpower.
