I put my second battery in when I need it - why carry 30 kg around when you don't?

It goes on the fridge slide and I use a Ctek D250S Dual as the charge controller. It works very well and I can plug in a portable solar panel if I am not driving the car for a couple of days and still need to run the car fridge.

Cheers

I put my second battery under the false floor in the cargo area, with the controller/isolator next to the main battery. Details here

I run a 3 way dometic fridge off the 12 volt while the car is running, but in camp it goes onto gas. I'm guessing I won't need a 2nd battery for this setup, the main battery will cope? It draws 10amp/h

Just make sure the wiring to it is adequate - read heavy - and that it cuts power when the engine turns off!

It would be best to run wires just for the fridge from the battery with an appropriate mega fuse in line. Three-way fridges hate inadequate wiring!
