dont rely on warranty (USED CAR QLD GOV STARDARD 3 MONTH WARRANTY)as i took my case to dept of fair trade, as the jeep had a scraping noise and gear shudder.

I thought i was a straight forward decision in my favor…..How wrong was I !. Fair trade said they cant force them to fix the car and if I wanted take more action I would have had to take it to small claims court. Which i should of. BE AWARE

So my advice is drive lots of jeeps and never buy the first one you fall in love with like i did …sigh

I have a JKU 07 with the 3.8. That is a very very clean engine bay - its been touched up to show that it hasn't been offload. Look for dings, scratches etc underbody. Minor ones r ok... most people who have these vehicles don't really bash them too hard offroad... exceptions of course. . The rust u show is normal. Shudder could be clutch about to go. How many Ks? Mine went at 80000 and it is about $2200 to get it replaced, including fitting. The 3.8 is a very reliable engine. "Shudder" or whatever u think it is might also be from a need for new plugs and plug leads especially f it occurs at idle. The 3.8 does have a bit a bit of a flat spot.

If in doubt, run away.

Hi justagirl,
Following up from my last reply. I bought mine from a dealer in Sydney and live in Vic.
The transmission played up on the way home from Sydney and had to bought back on a truck. Very long storey but the end result was that the dealer honoured the 3 month dealers statutory warranty to a degree, covered my air fares home, transportation costs and also threw in a 12 month warranty.
The statutory warranty conditions were that I had to take the vehicle back to Sydney at my cost and they were to carry out the repairs at their cost. It was then up to me to transport it home.
The transmission rebuild was going to cost them $2,800.00. I checked with the transmission place and they confirmed the price.
The dealer ended up paying me a $2,500.00 settlement and I had the transmission rebuild locally.

Happy with the end result although wouldn't want to go through it again. A lot of phone calls, emails and promises to take it legal if needed.

Cheers, Craig

ON ANOTHER SIDE NOTE .
as far as i know Australia doesnt have the " lemon law ", which California do have.
Check this-
AFTER 3 TIMES OF NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM BY THE CAR DEALER A FULL REFUND OR CHANGE OF VEHICLE !
,ALSO FREE LEGAL REPRESENTATION IS PROVIDED FOR THE CONSUMER BY LAW AND THE DEALER HAS TO PAY LEGAL FEES , so its in there best interest to solve the problem quickly.

Do yourself a favour....drive a Pentastar auto - the 5 speed is a gem of a box and the engine is also great. No need to shoot yourself in the foot with settling for the older tech (particularly the older auto trans).
If you do go ahead, get a large transmission cooler installed.....I'm assuming this one you're looking at is an auto?
The driveshafts look like that from new...nothing to worry about.
