The dealer quoted me an extra $5k for a hardtop, there's a bit of difference fitting the rear washer wiper controls etc to a Rubicon, better to pick up a second hand one for around $2500, or even rent/borrow one from someone if you wanted to do a long touring trip.
Also look at the Adventure pack bars and rockrails, they are pretty solid. If you really wanted a diesel, sell the petrol motor from the Rubicon and buy a diesel motor for it I recon.
Haing said that the diesel with factory traction control and the rear locker is a pretty capable vehicle too.

How much would you be looking at to do this kind or surgery?

So the only real issues i have found so far is the difficulties of getting a roof rack. And the diesel issue. I have read about the off road pack they offer for $3000 http://peterwarrenjeep.com.au/news/?...d=138&cat_id=8

So if that pack was added to one of the Diesel options you would pretty much have a Rubicon...Only exception being the weaker drive line and lack of front locker. Makes me wish they just got it sold over here to start with

I'm guessing a lot, 10K? Not as much as adding a D44, twin lockers, a 4:1 transfer case and a swabar disconnect to a CRD
