Great! 4L of Penrite ATF MHP goes for for $44 at repco and $43 for the filter kit (awesome service from MB spares). Not a lot of mess (drained oil through bunghole first ) and ready to go.

I thought now that I can successfully drop the pan and do an oil change, I might attempt the flush as well.

I disconnected one line from the cooler (passenger side = cooler to trans) and used two lengths of rubber hose to extend down into a 10 litre tub. I clipped the tubing onto the top edge of the tub so I could see the color of the fluid as it drained into the tub.

By attaching a funnel to the fill tube with some more tubing and securing the funnel to the bonnet with wire I then needed help to turn the engine on (and off) while I filled the funnel with fresh fluid. That was the tricky part.

The trans pumped out about 6L of dirty fluid before it changed to clean fluid, at which time my jeepchick wife switched the engine off and I simply topped up the level.

I also suggest anyone trying this take a look at youtube for some other examples of transmission oil flushing techniques too. Hope this can help demystify the black art of transmission servicing.

Thanks man, I asked this question before and you've just answered it. I've never done a complete flush so it seems pretty simple. The only thing I have an issue with, after checking the cooler lines on the car, is to reach and/or undo the cooler line on the WH. They looked crimped on.

If the colour of the oil when you change it is dirty or smells burnt then would flush but otherwise I wouldn't bother, I change mine every 30 to 40,000k

Dirty - check.

Smelled burnt - check.

I think I'll be adopting drovers maintenance schedule from now on.

Codes gone after the oil change and computer cleared at dealer.
