Lol. Yeah, there's a bitumen road in front of my house, whatever that's got to do with it. I leave the bitumen on weekends and holidays. Personally, I'm happy to have dust and leaves filtered so they don't enter the cabin/ventilation system. Makes for more pleasant travels, less cleaning, and less crap trapped and rotting away inside the system.

I have mine serviced by the local Jeep dealer.....they ask up front if you want the air and cabin filters replaced, or would you like them to check and only replace if its needed.
Of course, I specify the 2nd option.
My dealer/service department is pretty good like that.....and the service adviser knows what she's talking about....which is a change from some dealers I've dealt with over the years.

Don't they? !
I'm not actually against these filters. I just can't see the benefit at the cost and service inconvenience.
It's not just the off roading, it's anyone who doesn't like to keep themselves cooped up in an air conditioned cab all day.
I also have a MB SLK with this filter. Never goes off road but it still gets a regular coating of dust because if the weather is nice enough to go cruising the latte strip or whatever, it's nice enough to have the windows and / or top down.
My JK is not used for latte strips, Saturday night cruising or picking up hot chicks etc. which it seems some are.

I agree with lujabe, on a dirt road the cabin filter is a great thing. Even on recirc. The cab will still fill up with dust but with a cabin filter in place and the air con in fresh it will very slightly pressurize the cab and keep dust ingress to a minimum. I drive around in dust all day in a brand new cruiser ute and the dust that gets in is incredible. Toyota should follow suit and put a cabin filter in their utes and troopy's.

My 2007 build JK never came with any cabin filters and no facility to fit one.
Got no issues with dust / hay fever etc etc

Are they really a necessary accessory ?????

They do come in handy, when after being on the dirt & behind other vehicles in the dust.

It means that later, when you turn on the fan, you don't get that sudden blast of dust that was lurking in the A/C ducts, waiting for it's moment to spring on you & catch you off guard! I have an '08 without one.

On the gripping hand, I drive with the top off once it is warm enough & tube doors... Pollen filter!?

For those that are interested, there is a thread only a few months ago which deals with fitting a cabin filter to the earlier models.
I don't know how people went with the ideas afterwards. Involved a bit of "play school" arty crafty stuff.
