my two cents (again)....pennrite HPR 30 NON synthetic 20W-60...best stuff here in Oz for the Chero....most 4.0L motors have a lotta kms on the clock so are loosened up plus this is a 30 year old design and not engineered for tight tolerances like newer motors...synthetics will find their way past the seals and gaskets especially if you havent changed the PCV - they are simply too thin for this climate...seen more than one lose their drip from the rear main seal after going to the Pennrite...we run this oil in all our wrigs and our customers wrigs and havent had a complaint yet (in fact more kudos than not)

as far as coolant goes: drain it, fill it with a mix between 30 and 50% of a brand name with distilled water

I use Castrol GTX3 which is what they recommend in the Castrol book. I dont leak much oil and when on special with a Z9 filter I can do an oil change for under $30 bucks. Cant do much else on a jeep for that price.

The Castrol web site oil selector comes up with Magnatec (10W-40) or GTX3 Modern Engine (15W-40). The extra "thick" 20W-60 is a big step up in viscosity from these. I understand that thick oils are not necessarily better. Thinner oils are easier for the oil pump to get to where it is needed.

I think I will stick to Magnatec as long as the oil pressure stays OK. Later I might switch to a thicker goo.

I use thicker oil because my engines old. and it still has the same pressure weither i run thinner or thicker oil but i find it doesnt burn the thicker oil and less leaks.
