We did one of mine that way with a socket but it took two of us, one being a diff builder and we managed to #### a brand new seal. IMHO if you haven't done it with a rod and socket a few times before it will be pretty hard to get them lined up properly. I would say that press would be a good investment. Maybe get two or three people with D30s to chip in and who ever needs it could use it. People on here have tried making them but AFAIK no one has had any success with the homemade press.

Regards A

Default Axle leak

Is there a special name for that press so I can look for one if it's cheap enough?

Check with Wooders he sells BJ press' so I would think it would be fair to say he could get a seal press as well.

Whilst a press tool in useful, its far from necessary.

Get yourself a socket that fits into the seal lip, a long tube ( trolly jack or deathstick handle works well ) a heavy hammer and a mate to do the "tapping"

Bit of grease on the seal outer, place seal and socket into position inside housing, slide long tube down axle tube and tap away.

Sure you can get it crooked but if your gentle getting it started, and check a few times its all good. If you start it crookedly just tap it out from the other side.

There's no actual location lip in the housing for the seal to sit against when its fully inserted so don't go nuts with the hammer or press. Flush is enough unless you've got big scores on the axle shaft your trying to avoid

Really its not that hard.

Here's a vid to check out. Not hard to do once all axles and centre's out. No need for fancy presses

Default Axle leak

Just checked and found one of the caps on the uni joint isn't there, so need to replace the uni joint for the axle.

Any brand recommendations and where from?
