have you changed the cap yet? have you fixed the problem yet?? caps pack up, allow coolant out under expansion but dont retrieve it whan the old dog cools back down, that quickly leads to a depleated cooling system and over heating. any non gen cap will do.

if that doesnt cure it then you need to look at the t/stat as most guys have said, as with thir other tips.

Haven't actually driven the Jeep much, and haven't looked into the problem yet. Been too busy getting ready to shift houses. But this will be the first job to do in the new shed. I'll try the cap first, then the T-Stat and work from there if the problem is still present.

Congrats on the house Steve.

Yes I forgot to mention on my list is also a new T-Stat and cap, just to be on the safe side.

Update:

Ok so it's been over a month since this problem. But after moving and all the fun that goes with it and the holiday period I just didn't have time. But after getting the shed sorted out I replaced the T-Stat yesterday. But it's still running hot. I don't think the cap needs replacing as it sucks the coolant back into the system from the expansion tank as it cools which suggests a good vacuum. No glycol is leaking from the viscious coupling on the fan either.

I think it's probably just corrosion on the inside of the rad and it's partially blocked. By the looks of it the core should be able to be re-conditioned by a rad specialist. Anyone had this done before? Cost?

good, some progress, and if the radiator is crusty that wont be helping, do them change over here plus freight each way around $18 each way.

I dont want me to list parts prices on the board so please contact me via e-mail if thats OK.

other than that after such a rip thru the cooling system you might want to bolt in a new water pump & hoses to finish off the j-o-b.

were back in full swing on the 12th so let me know if you need our help by then. tw
