Just make sure those tyres are covered.
Oh yeah and budget in ditching the regular CV's unless you like more breakage
Stuff the CV breakage, skip the front locker and fit a LSD instead, MQ rear LSD fits GQ front with some machining work. And no AVM hubs either they are crap, though they do make a good fuse guaranteed to fail before your CV's.

well the cost savings are... a pair of GQ diffs cost anywhere from 0 - 600 bucks for a pair.... i got my rear for free, ill spend about 300 max for the front, way way way stronger than a stock 44, if your going to cmpare, compare it to the D60 in terms of size (definatley not strength), id pick a d60 anyday over a dirty old patrol diff, but unfortunalty its hard to justify 10,000 g's worth of diffs to the misses.....

the way im thinking is, its cheaper for me to fit patrol diffs in my rig then it is to change ratio's lockers etc to the the D30/D44 which will break as soon as i put bigger rubber on.....

I wouldnt be too worried about the GQ CVs, there pretty tough & with a lightweight TJ I reckon youd have to try hard to break em.

had that in my patrol and sorry to say i still broke cv's with the LSD in the front. In fact i still broke cv's with no locker in the front. In theory they are a good fuse but they dont work properly when the wheels are turned and thats when the cv's are at their weakest. So the CV goes first. Also patrol diffs have a horrible turring circle.

I can say from experience that GQ front diffs are pretty crap. CV's are too small, hubs are hard to come by as most people pillage wreckers for them and the wheel bearing design leads them to need replacing multiple times a year if running 35's or bigger. i've broke close to 10 cv's in a patrol and did around 20 wheel bearings and about 5 hubs in the 9 years i ran my patrol. I was running 35's up to 37" tyres.

under a heavy GQ patrol most people are putting GU diffs in. I woundnt bother with a GQ front diff, you'll have more problems than you did with your D30. You might find it a little better as the jeep weighs less, but i dont count it as a good mod for a jeep as you lose a ton of diff clearance as well, so you'll need to start running at least 35's to get that back. The rear diff on the other hand is great.

Also diff gears for a patrol are around $700 an end.

in my mates races truck we are running stronger CVs and weak chinese hubs theory is if it wants to break, its gonna break and the weaker hubs are alot easier and cheaper to change.
our findings have shown that these will break first, done 3 hubs no CVs and thats over 3 race meets and many weekends away.
