Yeah, they were hex shaped....the ones you have will just spin in the hole and not tighten up

As said above, do not overtighten as the thread will strip as I found out when I was fitting the transfer case skid. They can be removed with a little persuasion from a blunt chisel/screw driver and hammer. The issue then is where to get one nutsert.

I contacted the company listed on the bag of nutserts that came with the skid and got some sent out. Minimum order number was 20 and I only needed one so so I have plenty left over. Jeep were no help. Sure I could have some more if I ordered another skid plate!

The one error I made when ordering them was that I ordered an imperial thread thinking it would suit the American Jeep only to find out that skid came with metric bolts and nutserts so it meant a trip down to Bunnings for a replacement bolt.

Troyster,

able to post a pic of what they look like, are they galvanised? & the big question, looking to get rid of some? Suppose not ideal as the bolts I have will not fit & the tool Fouros is sending I suspect will have metric thread, therefore also not work & have to use the Monster method of installation

Cad plated as per the ones provided with the skid by Jeep

The tool is very simple. Basically it is a longer bolt with a spacer as per the attached images

A stronger connection for the front of the skid can be obtained by drilling completely thru the crossmember (thru the existing hexangonal holes) and adding a locknut/washer to a long bolt. I did this as they came with the SKid Row tranmission skid that I brought in from the US. The Jeep one did not exist when I nearly tore open the sump a rock. The sides holes on the transfer skid provide no alternatives to the use of nutserts

I was thinking the tool looked like a rivet gun, where the tool screws into the nutzert, you put the nutzert into the hole you want a thread in and you squeeze the tool pulling the threaded section into the tool therefore expanding the nutzert in the hole. Then unscrew the tool from the now new threaded hole. This way it doesnt matter if the nutzert is hex shaped because you are not turning a thread to fit it.

Fouros, is the tool that you are sending over look like a rivet gun or something like whats in Troysters pics? Like a sleeve over a bolt.
