i have 2 coolers on my trans line. one in the ront of the radiator and another in my wheel arch.. maybe when my trans was fixed the first time they put the second in to help cool it?

anyways i still get a warm left leg when driving long distances in town cos it heats up.

It is a good thing to have it run through there before going back to the trans as you can do just as much damage to a auto from running too cool as too hot. As the cooling system for the engine is regulated by a thermostat it also then helps control the auto trans temp and speeds up its warm up etc as well.
Thanks Gojeep.
This is a great site.

Agree with main seal, rear pinion, engine mount, plastic radiator tanks/seal, autotrans hoses and extractors - had/got all of them.

The only other thing I have picked up (already mentioned) is the water pump. Currently on my third in 285K. Found that the genuine units have numbers cast into the housing on the outlet side (think it was a '3') and the housing corroded to the point where it started to leak though the number that was cast into it as it was thinnest at this point to start with. The aftermarket unit that is now fitted does not have this number cast into it so I don't expect the problem to occur again anytime soon.

Thanks Snapey, yeah I'll add water pump to the final list, I think its worth a mention even though its not just an XJ problem and put a resolution of using an after market one.

fantastic trip mate....the weather cooperated perfectly and the jeep drove nice and comfortable the whole way...went down the Sapphire Coast outta Sydney into Melbourne then up to Adelaide and down to the tip of the Eyre Peninsula and then thru the Nullarbor....popped the cd player in at a downtown park along the river in Adelaide which drew a little attention...only roadkill was a turtle and didnt see a single live roo the whole way (nor another Jeep!)...the TJ turned heads everywhere we went and at one point we drove onto the main drag in Norseman right into the middle of a big car show which came to a screeching halt as they stopped handing out the trophies to watch us roll in then came over asking all kinds of questions...too funny...only mechanical incident happened when the rear brake line developed a stress fracture around the flare in the t-block and emptied half our brake fluid onto the road but we were only 300km outta Perth so drove the rest of the way with just the handbrake....was a trip we will never forget and i cant wait to do it again so we can hit all the dozens of places we didnt have time to see
