Sorry I should have said it was taken just north of Hillary's boat Harbour. Wasn't on the Swan at All.

Check out this awesome photo - this one deserves an award. Fireworks, Lightning, Sunset, a Comet, and the greatest of Aussie icons, the Beach all in one image.

In addition to the obvious features in the photo, look between the two displays of lighting up the sky to see the third - McNaught's Comet.
The photo was taken just north of Hillary's Marina, which you can see the harbour wall on the left with fireworks being launched.

Hey Steve, Hillary's Boat Harbour explains it all - makes a huge difference to which way "everything" is from the viewpoint of the camera. From the Swan there was no way the city can be on the left and the comet heading across the frame on that angle. From Hillarys all makes sense - in fact that was about the only place I could picture it being taken given all the other visual cues. Face south west and the comet is heading west not north, the city can be on the left and ......

It looks like a long shutter time was used and the fireworks would have been acting as camera flashes, thus the ghostly images would be where people were standing each time a large firework went off.

I still think it would make a great poster!
