I get between 400 & 430km from a tank of BP ultimate with probably a 60/40 city/highway driving

Not really ideal but it's the price to pay for the extra towing grunt and a nice V8 exhaust note.

I get 750Km out of the 2.7 CRD could get more but I panic. 9.6lt/100K mostly country driving but not much change when in the big smoke.

If it helps - when I bought our 2.7 CRD I looked at cheaper V8 vehicles that would cost more in fuel, and the better engineered (in my opinion) Mercedes diesel and gear box that cost more up front but less in fuel.

I have not driven the V8 but am very happy with the diesel cruising, 4WDing and 3500kg towing. I'm not confident in the comment being critical of the diesel's performance.

I have no trouble getting parts - Jeep, Mercedes or aftermarket mobs always have what I need in stock.

Can't fit a second battery into the engine bay of the CRD - I think you can in the V8.

Sure the CRD doesn't sound like a V8 - but I've always loved the sound and smell of a diesel.

Unless you wear gloves though - don't chew your nails after filling it up at the diesel pump.... I get about 750km out of a tank which is great going bush.

Thanks for all the replies troops,
I think I will go with a rather conservative 35mm Dobinsons springs and Rancho RS5000 shocks. I got the 235 75 15 Maxxis Bighorns fitted today, they worked well on the cruiser so should be good on the ZJ.
Cheers,
Pete

Hmmm

Can't remember asking a question about suspension or tyres.

Howdy... 2 batteries can fit in the CRD - Optima Yellow tops with special bracket... do a search in here and can see how it is done.

Very happy with my 04 CRD

Cheers

Thanks for the reply - looking a 2003 limited in Sydney at 73000 klms (petrol) and a 2003 diesel Laredo at 113000 here in Brisbane. choice is a tuff one....

anyone else that wants to throw in please feel free!

Lots of pros and cons for both!
