When was the last time spark plugs were changed?

If the car didn't have a major service done recently, you should order the necessary parts and all new sensors and have it done yourself and save big $$$ and all for under $500. At least you'll know what's been done.

Your spark plugs should be alright for a long time.

I'd check those sensors. Does anything else happen besides what you described above? Does it fluctuate in RPM's when idling, both in D and N?

Another think came to mind, does the problem come every time you accelerate or only when cold?

If it comes every time you accelerate then maybe one (or more) ignition coil isn't working properly? I don't know of any way of testing except the good 'ole way. You have to be careful as it is quite dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

Take the coil of the plug and instead of removing the plug, get another one to save hassle. Put it in the coil pack (make sure it in properly) and hold it with your (insulated) pliers (don't muck around like I did long time ago and got a massive zap!).

Then hold the plug somewhere grounded (away from your computer), best place is against a bolt on an engine block. Get someone to crank the car while you're holding it securely. If you see a blue spark on the tip of the plug then your coil is good. Check each coil, one by one and make sure they're OK.

I don't know of any other way of testing this.

I believe fuel usage is calculated by comparing odometer reading to fuel injector duty cycle, so it could mean that the injectors pulse is bieng interupted momentarily. This may point at faulty crank angle sensor.
