My thoughts.. Opinions..

The removal of the front air dam is quite easy, 4 clips/bolts, and it is mainly to give you a slight better approach angle and a little more clearance. Not heaps more but every bit helps.

There is at least a 2" lift available in Aus for our GCs, in the US, rocky-road has a 2.5" kit. Im sure there is more to come as time progresses.

ECB made a bull bar for the 2011, but due to front recover problem it doesnt fit the 2012, ECB and ARB are manufacturing something at the moment im pretty sure. I think ARB are working on a winch plate or bar as well.

It is a good car, for sure it wont go as far as a lifted Rubicon or somthing but i think it goes alright for what it is, and as more parts become available it will get better.

As for driving it on beach, a few people have gone to Fraser and Rainbow beach with one in stock form and stock tyres and it seemed to go pretty well with no real issues.

does the lift you are referring to (in aus) come from murchison offroad?

Taken my wifes WK2 Laredo 3.6 (stock standard) on the beach a couple of times now (Kinkuna National Park and Noosa North shore), adjusted tyre pressure to suit and it handled everything that came our way, although I wasn't looking to get into any trouble either. Also took it up a 30deg or more incline rocky/gravely hill climb with some other 4bys last week and it handled that climb without any wheel spin, (tyre pressures at 22psi) unlike some others (Hilux dual cab and Landcruiser) which were slipping and spinning gravel everywhere.
I was quiet pleased and impressed. I did find it wanting in ground clearance in some instances, but as I said it's stock standard.

Yep, ARB are developing a combination bar similar to what they have for the previous model GC. So winch capability will be there.

I'm feeling a whole lot more confident about buying one. So time to hit the dealers!

Have done some very light 4wd track work
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hutpxPM1h2s
this is our first off road trip, the Reynolds river track in Litchfield NP near Darwin NT, it was pretty tame but i have to say the JGC did it with ease, it just floated over the sand and never lost traction
2011 Laredo CRD standard (steel) suspension, standard Kuhmo tyres 18", mopar side steps, mopar tow bar, uniden UHF

Gday yoda42
That looks great, and the GC looks standard.
And with standard tyres....its promissing.
I am guessing you have the 2011 before the change in front recovery points?
cheers
