How long does your JK stand idle between uses ?
If its quite a period it would be worth while keeping the battery connected to a modern digital charger such as a Ctek while its standing.
Keeping the battery at full charge will help to stop sulphication of the plates or coils and loss of capacity

Hi Guys I read this thread when i started experiencing the same issues on my 2010 JK CRD. I replaced my battery first and luckily i was checking voltage after it first kick. The solenoid wire above the starter caught on fire. Had i not have done this i would have been much worse off. A quick hit with the fire extinguisher saved the day. What i found was the starter has a little drain hole in the motor and over time clogged with mud and dirt causing the motor to slow and draw massive amps. Sorted out a replacement from repco for $305 and found the housing was a diff size but both bosch. Rang Jeep none in Brisbane 5 day wait and $625. I was going camping so decided to use the repco one both motors were identical both coils the same. the only diff was the gear box length and mounting holes. So i fully stripped the old motor and it all bolted together sweet as and no rough start $320 better of and no fire!!!! My suggestion fully charge your battery and if it starts bad you may have the same issue esp if you have been using your jeep as you should
