Know that feeling, this was different. Terrible pedal.

Sounds like you might have bypassing seals in the master. Hopefully the new one fixes it.

Have replaced the master cylinder with a second hand one (thanks Bill) and re bleed the whole system but still the peddle drops away with heavy pressure. I have driven the vehicle and it pulls up fine.

Have booked in to see a dealer on Monday to get it checked out. While bleeding the master cylinder it seems the rear brakes get pressure well before the front so might explain why the rear pads wear quicker than the front.

Well had the Jeep into a service centre I had not used before and they checked things out. Comparing it to another JK they said is was similar but suggested a ABS bleed using DRB scan tool. Ended up with not a lot of difference and the brakes were pulling up fine but did not feel right once a lot of foot pressure was applied. Maybe it was just me as I normally dont sit there testing the pressure on the pedal. Must admit with the new pads and brake lines I need very little pedal travel to pull the jeep up.

Thanks for all your comments MM.
