Thanks again. Sorry to see you letting her go and good luck to the new owner who will surely enjoy her for years to come.

P/S: would be great to see a YouTube of her in action and hear that meaty growl I may have a buyer for you from SJC. How much are you selling her for?

Cheers & Beers
I used Optim Forwarding services via a personal recommendation. Mel (who I dealt with, PM if you want his email address) was very good to deal with. My price that I quoted before also included delivery from Sydney to Wagga at $342.

I have listed it at $25,000 but am negotiable. Most low km WJ's (not many around) go for around $15k and it has about $20k+ of accessories and fitting done. So I took the resale value and half of the accessories price and came up with $25k. It's hard to put a price on a truck like this which is why I am negotiable. There is practically nothing to compare it to. If anyone has an opinion about the price (I know, lower is always better for the buyer - so no silly comments please), then I welcome constructive feedback.

Thanks all for your appreciation of the truck. I love driving it, and love the way it turns heads when I drive it around town

It's really difficult to find something that I like, that is comfortable and has enough room for me (I am a big guy) , that has live axles and good suspension lift options, and a good aftermarket parts catalogue.

The Patrol or LC100 series both fit the mould and they both have a huge aftermarket range. Fitting out the WJ has cost a bucket load more than fitting out a Pootrol or LC because of the very limited range of parts in Australia. Having been stung once by this import or suffer build - I am not going there again.

I have looked at Wranglers, but they are limited in space. But there have been some cool builds I have seen in the 4WD Action mags. I don't know. It's a big decision. The WJ will always be remember though as a tough and fun rig.
Fair enough.

$20k-28k would prob only get you a stock WH Grand Cherokee diesel or XH Commander diesel, but I think you'll be struggling to find a Patrol (unless its older than GU) or LC100 that wasn't a mining vehicle and then mod it to your liking for your budget. Maybe doable if you do all the work yourself.

I know you've prob already thought about all the options etc so not trying to talk you into keeping the WJ, but if you kept it you could re-rear the diffs to 4.10 (or even 4.56 for better towing power) and get some of your economy and power back after fitting the bigger tyres, bar work, and towing. Install a trans cooler for extra security. Not necessary but if you had heaps of spare cash, then upgrade the trans a little with upgraded torque converter and shift kit. You'd prob have a further $3-5k into it and you'd know that its one tough vehicle that'll go anywhere towing your camper trailer also with better fuel economy and power than the Patrol or LC100 diesels.

Also, just curious, what have you done with the spare wheel well? I've always thought it'd be cool to have a long range aux tank installed for longer range (on petrol), but then also have LPG fitted and donut tank in the spare wheel well for cheaper economy around the city, as the WJ is one of the only vehicles that would allow the owner to have both an aux tank and LPG tank.

I only want to buy the truck for that budget. Then I will upgrade it as I see fit and free up money. No one is willing to work on the jeep or they just have no clue. Even supposed specialist just laugh when I start asking about upgrades. Wholesale automatic transmissions, the guys that are supposed to know everything said I cannot really do anything. And I am really over spending the time and cash on this rig. I have taken it as far as I want and am still not happy. Fuel consumption is something to be desired.....

In regards to the spare tyre area, I saw two people about putting a fuel tank in there but neither were real confident and said it would cost a lot. They had no idea how to join the two, make pumps work, trip computer etc. that's why I put the underbody tank in. It annoys me though that it is wasted space... But I am not real keen to add more weight.

Sorry for the slight negativity, but I am ready to let her go. But then I drive it and hear the exhaust and see heads turning and then I want to keep it! So torn.

You really have buckleys in getting a good condition 4.2 turbo GU for even $28,000. Coming from a Patrol background I would still kill for a nice simple bulletproof no technology 4.2 but their price has gone crazy. $28,000 will at best get you a high mileage very early standard truck. A mates recently acquired 2001 low mileage 4.2 cost him $37,000. That buys a very nice late model WH etc. But good luck anyway. Not sure if you'd have any better luck with a Cruiser but you may get an aftermarket turbo'd 100. I had a very early 80 series with a 1HD-FTE transplant and 400thou k's before and sold it for $22k easily. No way I'd pay that cause it really was a truck to drive.

Geez I should have kept my GU. It was a 99 4.2 TD ST with 3' lift and 35's and 135,000kms. I sold it 5 years ago for $19k.

But then, I never would have found the Grand Cherokees if I did that. No comparison for features, style and comfort.

I can't do lockers because it is a Quadradrive with Varilok axles. Did speak to someone today about the diff regearing. Need to do some serious research to work out which ratio to change to. I have 32" KM2's and a lot of weight. I want to get more torque and really don't want to increase the fuel consumption. But I think the fuel consumption is high because the truck isn't geared right.

Does anyone know if there is anything you can do with the transmission? If I keep it I will change the trans cooler setup to a bigger one, and maybe replace the transfer case chain. I would love to put a lockup kit in the trans, but nobody seems to have done this before and nobody knows if it can be successfully done....????

I don't really have money to spend on the truck right now - but might just have to keep it. I'll leave it advertised because if I get the right price I will let it go.
