Replacing the D35 is the best option, but the costs can get away from you (me). I got a low mileage Ford 8.8 31 spline disc brake Trac-Lok for $265. A conversion kit to the XJ is a further $200 plus post from the US. Then you need to re-gear the D30 to match. That's another heap of coin. Good idea to fit a locker while the front is apart. More coin. Why don't we re-gear both diffs while they`re out so we can run 33`s? good idea. more coin. I did some more research & found out about Mustang GT500 carbon fibre clutch packs & heavy duty F150 spring for the Trac Lok. Got to have that too...
I wish I had just polished the turd too...
cheers,
Rick

Ok so the mechanics verdict was that a full rebuild will cost me about $2500.. Once I picked myself off the floor told him to put the back cover back on and I will deal with it myself. Now looking for an open wheel (non LSD) centre and will fit a auto LOKKA. So over being ripped off ...

I would'nt be surprised if someone on here has a spare d35 hanging around that they would part with for a little bit of coin, will get you up to the cape cheap only a couple of hours work, also try eBay and gumtree?

You should be able to pick up a D35 for next to nothing, I sold a decent one for $90 a few years ago but others have given them away.

Cheers

I have a good one in SA. I can get $250 for it over there. Mine was rebuilt 18months before I bought a new 8.25. Mine was rechecked by the diff builder and is in good condition, I wouldn't sell it otherwise. However I would look around and place a wanted ad in the FS section. Someone on here, near you will be bound to have a decent one for sale. What ever you do don't get one from the wreckers as 99% of the time it will be F####.

Regards A
