So car yards outsource the RWC testing? And if you want the work as a tester you look after the car yard.

I was wondering if car yards do testing themselves which could be just as dodgy if not more.

FIT "em.
+1

I ran for a year with no mudflaps on 3" lift & 35's and now after listening to plenty of 4x4 mechanics and more experienced 4x4'ers I regard myself as having been very lucky not to have been pinged.

Don't go anywhere without them now.

A work mate bought from the same car yard. I can't remember what was wrong, but he contacted them and they sent a cheque covering the problem no worries.

The car yard is two hours away from us, other side of Melbourne, we are in Geelong.

It may seem bizarre to some, but I'm not fussed about the TRE's at all. They took a whole hour or so to replace, it was insanely easy, maybe because this 98,000k Jeep had never seen a dirt road it was very well looked after mechanically.

Guess I am wayyy to easy going maybe. Being stoked with the JGC might have something to do with my lax attitude.

And to be honest, the bonnet gas struts work 50% of the time, dependant on temperature. Haha.

I was just curious to know how the car yard RWC issue works.

Most of the yards near the Ringwood area you are talking about source their RWC internally.

You have many car dealers in the same area they source a RWC from a "mechanic" that is employed by the car yard "collective".

I bought a Nissan from there years ago that was only marginal RWC, very similar if you would buy something from a yard that advertises "the cheapest cars in Mel____ne"

Mudflaps, got some on the rear wheels but none in front. Must say that's how the JKU come. But replaced sidesteps with rocksliders. Any issue with that?

Mudflaps only required on the rear. Technically speaking very few actually meet the legal requirements, but as long as you have some on the rear that are at least as wide as the tyres and cover down to a reasonable height you should keep Mr Plod happy.

Technically speaking, the lowest point of the rear mudflap must be no more than 230mm from the ground for a regular passenger vehicle, or 300mm for an off road vehicle.

The other fact that is often missed, is despite the 300mm maximum height regulation for us there is one that is usually overlooked that states the wheel must covered continuously from the front to rear for the entire width of the tyre and the rear must extend down to a point not more than 20 degree angle above the centre of the road contact with the tyre. Picture is worth a thousand words as they say:

(the continuously part means the guys with tube bars on the rear and mudflaps hanging below them but open where the tube bar is are just as vulnerable as the guys with no mudflaps - all depends on the knowledge of the cop)

Funny thing is a lot of road vehicles don't meet this requirement when you look at little hatch backs with the rear wheels right at the back of the vehicle and no mudflap, like the new Mini I was following yesterday...
