Did try that wazza d. Tried 4 specialist fastner places. They did sell cheaper bolts but not the 10.9 gage. On a good note I also called into Cross Country 4x4 here in adelaide. They rocked and gave me 2 bolts. Again these weren't the 10.9 but at least they helped and at no charge

Damn!
Make sure you fit the correct grade bolt when you get it though.
I think your Cat dealer in Adelaide is Cavpower.
They may be worth calling if you have this problem again. I doubt if they would be cheap but they should have the bolt you want.
Caterpillar supply different types of bolts, 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 as well as imperial.
Still, I was surprised that you couldn't find the correct bolt. Must be more rare than I thought.

Sorry, this is also a bit late.
I remembered this morning that I bought some bolts which I used for my suspension mods.
They are M14 x 80 10.9.
I bought these with nuts for $9 each from the MAN truck dealer.
They are used to assemble chassis and suspension.
You won't need Loctite with these baby's as they are the serrated locking flange type. This is why I use them.
Also good German precision quality.
Anyhow, sorry I forgot about this. Must be a bit of alzyemers setting in.

Just looked back over this and realised that the bolt that fell out was the original stock one. Aren't these self locking nuts? As in with the end of the nut crimped over a little so that even if it comes loose it can not undo itself and fall out?

Just seems a little strange to me. I have had nuts been left off before - like when the Jeep service centre changed my ball joints and forgot to put the nut back on the lower front shock mount. 2 weeks later it was still like that, no nut and the bolt just sitting there.

Those ones aren't. Once loose, you can easily undo them with your fingers.
