Unfortunately my 2 year Maximum Care Plus extended warranty stipulates that it must be serviced through a dealer otherwise claims may be refused.

That's rubbish mate. Australian consumer law over rides any vendor warranty

Interesting, so the consumer law extends to extended warranties as well?

The Australian law does not override the extended warranty from dealer. The law covers manufacturer warranty however that is not the case for the extended warranty which is a service offered by dealer. I'm not sure if all dealers use the same rule. Mine was given to me by my dealer for free and those fine prints listed that as long as my vehicle is serviced by accredited mechanic at recommended periods/mileages, they will honor the warranty. They listed clearly what is covered by the extended warranty and what's not.

After reading that, you will just say... I'll go to other places for service and forget about the extended warranty.

The warranty I have was not the standard dealer warranty that I was also offered for free if I get it serviced with them and only them, while covering only a small amount of repairs with a maximum coverage amount. This one has no maximum covered price (for non wear and tear items listed), offers roadside assistance, accommodation and car hire etc. It's underwritten by IAG.

I will call IAG tomorrow as states that they can allow for non Jeep servicing if agreed upon, so fingers crossed.

Generally speaking exclusive dealing notifications are against the law. A company can apply to the ACCC for an excemption. More info here
http://www.consumerlaw.gov.au/conten...icle_sales.pdf

I'm not a solicitor so this is only an educated guess. I would find it incredibly unlikely that the ACCC would allow a warranty under writer to form an exclusive dealing notification for an item that has a well established and regulated support network, such as a motor vehicle.
