so a young guy rams the back of my trailer at 1.30in the morning, which was hitched to my spare white XJ, pushing the rear bar down about 10 degrees, and creasing the chassis about 1/2" where the bar is bolted on, and my tailgate wont open..I assess this as a writeoff, although it *may* be possible to straighten by hydraulics, or cut & weld that last section, but I doubt it would be economic

young fella smashed his own windscreen with his head but seemed ok, said he had insurance. probably a writeoff, and concerned cause my vehicle was unreg, but parked on the street (got paid out last time it happened tho)

I really hope the guy was not lying about being insured, i got pics and video of the crash, and his licence, still hasnt txt insurance details

treated him like i would want my own kid treated (just like last time a young un smashed me), which is ironic cause my young bloke smashed 2 other cars, was not insured and I negotiated a 3k payout, so he would not be bankrupt (the insurance co wanted 10K)

the good news and bad

heres the damage, note distorted frame rail, loose bolts are cause I had taken down, but not replaced the petrol tank shield b4 the hit

both sides like that and towbar angled down about 10degrees, rear tailgate wont open, otherwise seems ok

the good news is the other dudes Insurance offered me $2600, keep the vehicle, no writeoff, and $300 for trailer which i weld myself.

my ole mate reckons hook up my 10ton chains to the towbar, wrap round big tree, and bang it out, maybe a little oxy heat on the crease??

the insurance guy reckons this may work but tear the towbar mount bolts, he was good to neg with, asked me what it was worth, i said it owed me $2600, he said ok, pay u minus wreck value 2700-100, shake hands 5mins.

a dude stopped to ask me to sell it to him the other day, so now my options are sell, keep for spares, swap good bits to the black one and keep on my rural block as a farm truck

So I took the rear-ended White XJ down the bush, in 4wd, hooked up my heavy chains around a 2ft tree and the towball, have her about 10ft and and rammed forward twice, damm near gave myself whiplash, but the tailgate now opens!

furthermore, the towbar, which had a distinctly downward pointing aspect is nearly horizontal.

the big crease in the chassis is now very much reduced

all-in-all, a very good result, so much for hydraulic stretching machines

it did put a 6" deep groove in the back of the tree, and my neck felt pain, lucky the airbag didnt go off, although I never exceeded ~10kmph

there is a lot of gear in this vehicle, the extra rear seat will be surplus to my requirements

it has 30 X 9.5 tyres with heaps of tread, havent been able to date them yet.

the whole vehicle is in fairly good condition, and is full to the very brim with spares.

I intend to swap front & rear ends complete, front alloy bar, front skidpan, and a few other items over the next couple of weeks

Were the 2 extra seats a dealer option? I've never seen them before...
